Patient assessment: What comes next?

Start where you feel comfortable. Assess the patient, choose your next action, and adapt when the situation changes.

Version 3 · 10 adult scenarios · Easy / Medium / Hard

Easy · Build a routine

Next-step prompts, clear findings and one mid-case decline.

Medium · Reconsider your plan

Less guidance, history to clarify and one mid-case decline.

Hard · Manage competing priorities

Two complications, uncertain information and resource or equipment problems. Hints are available on request.

Step-by-step prompts, one scheduled decline, immediate teaching feedback.

How changes, difficulty and feedback work

Patient-assessment cases include a scheduled decline even when appropriate actions are selected. Hard mode adds another complication. The collapse drill starts in arrest, so its complications involve resuscitation equipment and ventilation. These are chosen teaching events, not predictions that good treatment fails.

Distinct assessment and care actions move the story forward. Repeated clicks, reading time, reflections and hints do not count as elapsed medical time or make the patient worse. Case changes appear automatically; you do not need to press a deterioration button.

Only selected actions and obtained findings are recorded. Earlier observations are marked after a patient change. Medication choices are discussion plans: this version does not administer drugs, approve doses or model drug responses. Your written reasoning is retained for instructor discussion and is not medically graded.

Use fictional information only. This block makes no network requests and keeps the practice record only while this page stays open. Download the record to keep it. The exercise supports supervised EMT learning; it is not a clinical decision tool, a validated readiness test or a calibrated measure of NREMT difficulty. Local scope, protocols and clinical review remain necessary. Exact AAOS 13th-edition Chapter 10 alignment still requires the book’s ISBN and objectives.

Unperformed assessments remain unknown. Past findings are not automatically current after a patient change.
